Menopause Blues
Fifty plus, it’s a fact,
my fertility is waning,
periods come seldom now;
birthing belongs to my past.
Menopause blues, missing
my flow’s vitality,
the monthly randez vous
with the red fluid of my women’s ancestry.
Menopause blues,
I pause to write about you,
with five kilos of added fat,
hard to digest that;
my body is rounding up.
Menopause blues,
I have to go through,
this phase like my mother,
come out of the dark,
back to the light,
and delight in this crossing of border.
Menopause blues,
won’t last for good,
all women can attest to that,
so here is to menopause,
I wholly accept and endorse it,
just like myself.
