I am delighted to support the preservation and protection of the mosaic floor of the Aegina Synagogue.
As it turns out, there is also a family friendship involved as my mother was good friends with your late mother-in-law and knows your husband! Her name is Paulette Nehama (née Mourtzoucos), and she is from Greece (originally Volos, then Athens).
I have been to Aegina but not since I was a child in the 70s, though I remember I loved it. Both my parents are Greek Jews, though my late father, Isaac Nehama, who was born in Athens, was Sephardic and his parents came from Monastir (now Bitola).
I am delighted to support this project and to contribute to safeguarding the Greek Jewish heritage surviving today in Greece as a means of affirming that I too am part of the chain of Greek Jews although I live in the US.
I urge you to support this project too, and suggest you check out the project at this link to find out more about it!
Sincerely,
Sarah Nehama
